MTD Deadline Planner

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is being phased in. This works out whether it applies to you, from when, how many updates you must file — and puts the exact dates in your calendar.

Free. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored. Rules current as at 20 August 2026.

Missed the 7 August 2026 deadline, or been signed up by HMRC?

A late quarterly update in 2026–27 carries no penalty — but the waiver does not cover your 2026–27 tax return (due 31 January 2028), and it does not remove the obligation to file. HMRC begins signing up non-registered taxpayers from September 2026.

The catch-up, step by step — and what your next update must actually cover

Your situation

Turnover before deducting any expenses or allowances. Enter 0 if none.
Total rent received before expenses (not your profit). If you own jointly, enter your share only. Enter 0 if none.
HMRC's own eligibility checker does not ask this — but the law counts it. If you are UK resident, overseas rental income counts toward your threshold and is a separate business with its own updates. Enter 0 if none.
Scope is tested on an earlier year's income, not the current one.
Each trade files its own quarterly update.
Standard follows the tax year (6th to 5th). Calendar quarters must be elected in your software before your first update and cannot be changed mid-year.
